New CV Tool — how it works
New CV Tool helps you build your career profile in more detail than you ever have — application by application, often surfacing things you had forgotten or never thought worth writing down. When you apply for a job, it mobilizes everything in that profile — never inventing, never embellishing — into a CV and letter you compile in conversation with your own AI. The tool is the container: the profile lives here, the documents take shape here, and you export and keep what you send. Your profile is yours to download or delete at any time.

Which AI can I use?
Any chat works through copy and paste: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or a local model. For a direct connection without copy-paste, the client must support connectors (MCP), such as Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or Codex.
How do I connect a chat like Claude or ChatGPT?
Open Account → Connect an AI agent. Claude has a pre-filled add button. For ChatGPT, the same panel shows the connector URL and the exact Settings path. Approve the New CV Tool page that opens. Connecting is free.
How do I connect a coding tool like Claude Code or Codex?
Tell it: "Add the New CV Tool connector at https://app.newcvtool.com/mcp and connect to my account." You can also use the command shown at https://app.newcvtool.com/connect. A browser tab opens once for your approval.
I only have a free chat account. How do I use it?
Turn on chat mode in the tool. Send copies the document, job ad, context, and instructions your AI needs and opens your chat. Paste it, discuss the document, then import the reply. It arrives as a new version next to the one you sent.
What can a connected AI touch?
It can read your profile and applications, save new applications, set application-board status (drafted, ready, sent, reply, rejected, withdrawn), add facts you explicitly give it, and return edited CVs and letters as new versions. It cannot send or submit an application to an employer, overwrite a version you are holding, change your identity or contact details, or access another user. You can disconnect it in your AI settings at any time.
Is it free?
The workspace is: your profile, saved applications, templates, manual editing, version history, connected agents, and PDF export. AI writing only costs money when you ask CV Tool to run the model for you. Starter credits let you try that integrated path.
How do I pay nothing?
Use copy-paste with your own chat, connect your own agent, edit manually, or add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key. Your profile and exports remain yours without a subscription.
So what is the paid plan for?
It pays for AI run by CV Tool inside the app: integrated tailoring, parsing, and focused rewrites. Each action shows its credit cost before it runs, and Account shows the live price, renewal period, included balance, purchased balance, and recorded debits. The free workspace and bring-your-own-AI paths do not consume those credits.
Is my API key stored?
No. It stays in your browser, is sent with each request, and is never written to the database or logged.
What does it do?
It builds a detailed, user-owned career foundation over time. For each application, it selects the relevant evidence and helps you present it in your best honest light. It does not invent or embellish.
Is the imported CV ready to send?
No. An existing CV is source material for your career foundation. Review and enrich it first. A job-specific CV and letter are then created from that foundation for a particular employer.
So who writes the CV — the tool or the AI?
You remain the editor. CV Tool can produce a strong base and your AI can help you revise it, but you inspect, change, approve, and export the document. Nothing is submitted to an employer automatically.
Why not just keep everything in ChatGPT?
A chat restarts from whatever context you give it. Here your profile keeps growing, your decisions remain visible, sources stay attached, and each application is stored beside its job ad. The next conversation starts further ahead than the last.
How do I get my existing CV in?
Upload a PDF or text CV, paste messy text or a LinkedIn profile, use AI OCR for a scanned PDF, upload several supporting documents, or enter your history manually. Proposed facts remain reviewable before they become part of your profile.
Can my AI build the profile itself, not just the documents?
Yes. The Profile panel supports the same send-and-import round trip as documents, with the reply arriving as a new profile copy. A connected agent can add facts you explicitly tell it, with provenance. It cannot silently delete or rewrite existing facts.
Can I add work certificates and other evidence later?
Yes. Upload a certificate, reference, transcript, portfolio note, or other text document in Documents and choose Scan into profile. The tool compares it with the profile and proposes additions. Nothing is saved until you approve it.
Will it make things up?
It is designed not to. Missing evidence appears as a gap, not a fabricated claim, and computed or suggested values remain visible and reviewable. A language model is still involved, so read everything you send.
Is the profile really mine?
Yes. Download it whenever you like, take it elsewhere, or delete the account and its data. Your profile is not sold and is not used to train models.
